Annexin A4 antibody is a calcium/phospholipid-binding protein that promotes membrane fusion and is involved in exocytosis. It belongs to the Annexin protein family and shares a common structure consisting of four 60-70 aa annexin repeats packed into a compact, slightly curved disc with a convex surface harboring the calcium and phospholipid binding sites. Annexin proteins are implicated in a variety of cellular functions including cell growth, cytoskeletal interactions, phosphatase inhibition, and signal transduction.

Human ANXA4 has 92% aa sequence identity with Mouse and Rat ANXA4. The protein is homologous to mouse placental anticoagulant protein III, lipocortin IV, endonexin I, and carbohydrate-binding protein P33/P41 (CBP). ANXA4 binds to the phosphatidylcholine receptor of human blood platelets and blocks the phospholipid-dependent activation of the clotting cascade and cell death. It plays a role in the apoptosis of cancer cells and is an important factor for regulating tumor progression.

Upregulation and nuclear translocation of ANXA4 is associated with the progression of colorectal cancer and ovarian serous carcinoma. Knockdown of ANXA4 attenuated migration in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells and enhanced the susceptibility to platinum treatment in ovarian cancer cells.

This antibody was raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to the N-terminus of human ANXA4. It recognizes ANXA4 in immunohistochemical staining and western blot.
